The Droitwich Barge and Junction canals fell into disuse after World War I, and were officially abandoned in 1939.

The Droitwich Canals Trust was formed in 1973 and volunteers began working to restore them.

The canals were officially reopened on Friday, completing a 21-mile (34km) cruising ring, linking the River Severn and the Worcester & Birmingham Canal.
